O Cenpec - Centro de Estudos e Pesquisas em Educação, Cultura e Ação Comunitária - nasce em 1987, quando pouco havia de organizações da sociedade civil engajadas na melhoria da educação pública, possivelmente pela percepção geral de que essa era uma causa nobre exclusiva do Estado.
As ações do Cenpec estão, desde a sua fundação, comprometidas com as demandas postas ao avanço da política pública de educação no País. São pautadas pela compreensão de que a qualidade social da educação depende do enraizamento das ações socioeducativas no território e na maior intersetorialidade das políticas sociais.
