De Gelderse Roos is in 1996 ontstaan als instelling voor geestelijke gezondheidszorg uit een fusie van vijf organisaties. RIAGG Arnhem, RIAGG Rivierenland, Algemeen Psychiatrisch Ziekenhuis Wolfheze, Herstellingsoord Mens en Samenleving en Stichting Veluweland werkten voortaan samen binnen één grote GGZ-organisatie. In 2000 fuseerden de PAAZ-en van Ziekenhuis Rivierenland en Ziekenhuis Rijnstate met de Gelderse Roos, in 2001 volgde de RIAGG Veluwe-vallei.
Per 1 januari 2009 is De Gelderse Roos bestuurlijk gefuseerd met Forum GGz Nijmegen tot Pro Persona. Vanaf 1 januari 2010 zal Pro Persona zich aan de buitenwereld presenteren.
De medewerkers van de Gelderse Roos bieden verschillende vormen van zorg aan. Er is ambulante zorg, deeltijdzorg en klinische zorg aan mensen met psychische problemen en psychiatrische ziekten. Hieronder vallen bijvoorbeeld angststoornissen en burn-out, maar ook schizofrenie en manisch-depressiviteit. Ook biedt de Gelderse Roos preventieve activiteiten aan.
