SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals provides an affordable, safe, nurturing home away from home for seriously ill adult patients, their family members, and caregivers from throughout North Carolina and beyond.
We are a beautiful 40-bedroom house located just minutes from UNC Hospitals. Our 32 standard rooms and 8 suites have private bathrooms, televisions, telephones, and comfortable furnishings. The suites, reserved for patients who are immuno-suppressed, such as transplant patients, include full-sized refrigerators and kitchenettes to provide extra protection from infection. A number of comfortable common areas, including a Great Room with a fireplace and a large, modern kitchen, provide guests opportunities to form friendships and networks of support, united by similar circumstances.
Founded in 2001 and open since March 2008, we serve about 2,200 patients, family members or caregivers annually. Most of our guests are from North Carolina—last year 93% were—and all share a common thread: Their loved one
