Subaru. Een wéreldmerk
Subaru produceert al ruim zestig jaar automobielen en is nu meer dan 40 jaar actief in de Benelux. Het merk maakt deel uit van het wereldomvattende Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd, een concern dat zich niet alleen met de productie van auto's bezighoudt, maar ook met die van vliegtuigen, openbaar vervoersmiddelen o.a. treinen en industriële producten. Kortom: Subaru is niet zo maar een merk. Subaru is een wéreldmerk!
Meest zichtbare divisie van het Fuji Heavy Industries-concern is de autotak: Subaru. Begin negentiger jaren besloot deze divisie zich vrijwel geheel te gaan toeleggen op de productie van modellen met een belangrijke, extra veiligheidsvoorziening: Symmetrical All Wheel Drive (Symmetrical AWD), oftewel permanente vierwielaandrijving. Inmiddels zijn alle leverbare modellen hier standaard en zonder meerprijs van voorzien; met uitzondering van de Subaru BRZ, een achterwielaangedreven sportcoupé.
