1920 yılında Amiral Mark L. Bristol tarafından kurulan hastane, Türkiye’de kâr amacı gütmeden kurulan ilk özel hastanedir. Hastane ile aynı anda kurulan Amiral Bristol Hemşire Okulu da, Türkiye'nin ilk hemşirelik okulu olarak hastanenin ayrılmaz ve vazgeçilmez bir parçası olmuştur. Hastane ve hemşirelik okulu; 1995 yılında işletmenin New York'taki ilk sahibi American Hospital of İstanbul Inc. şirketinin yönetim kurulu kararı ile Vehbi Koç Vakfı'na devredilmiştir.
