Ar Kids Read

AR Kids Read is a high impact community service strategy which leverages the power of caring volunteers to help children attain reading level proficiency by the end of fourth grade. There are roughly 1500 students per grade (2nd and 3rd grade) in Central Arkansas who do not read at grade level. Studies indicate that 65% of students who do not read at grade level by the end of fourth grade will drop out of high school, end up on welfare, or end up in prison. In an effort to combat this problem, AR Kids Read recruits volunteers who donate one hour a week for 12 weeks a semester to work with students on reading comprehension. These students are primarily 2nd and 3rd graders in the three school districts in Pulaski County--NLRSD, LRSD, PCSSD. In the 2012-2013 school year AR Kids Read recruited over 200 volunteer tutors. The goal for this year is to have at least 600 tutors who will then be able to work with at least 1200 students. We are always looking for new volunteers, partners, and sponsors! To l
