By The Hand is a Christ-centered after-school program committed to helping children who live in under-resourced, inner-city neighborhoods have a chance at a new, abundant life by loving the whole child – mind, body and soul. We are unique in that we offer more than just tutoring and mentoring. By The Hand’s mission is to help our children develop holistically, through encouraging educational achievement, healthful lifestyles and spiritual growth.
By The Hand currently serves close to 1,200 children in four under-resourced Chicago neighborhoods: Altgeld-Murray, Austin, Cabrini-Green and Englewood. All of the children that enter our program are recommended by local principals as children who are failing in reading. Last school year, 81% of our kids passed all of their classes and 230 kids were on the honor roll. We also had 100% of our seniors graduate high school and 94% enroll in college. In addition 166 of our kids professed faith in Jesus.
