In 2014, an interdisciplinary team of oncologists, medical geneticists, genetic counselors, primary care physicians and nurse practitioners convened to solve a growing problem in clinical cancer genetics – patient access. With such a small group of trained cancer genetic counselors available, there was a need to make the process more efficient, team-based, and scalable for all patients in need.
