The Chisholm Trail roughly follows modern day US Highway 81. Highway 81 is parallel to Interstate 35, and an easy diversion from popular sites like the Wichita Wildlife Refuge in Lawton, Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma City metro area, and Route 66.
Cross the Red River into Oklahoma. The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan is not your usual rusty-dusty museum. Featuring high tech, interactive exhibits throughout the facility, the premier exhibit is the 4D theater showing an 18 minute film that literally puts guests in the middle of a longhorn stampede and southern plains thunder storm. Other exhibits include an animatronic Jesse Chisholm, extremely rude chuck wagon, rotating gallery and more. Be sure to tour the Garis Gallery of the American West’s multi-million dollar art collection and the largest single sculpture dedicated to the Chisholm Trail, Paul Moore’s “On the Chisholm Trail.”
