「天下」取名自「天下為公」，表示對一個美好社會的嚮往與追求。
1981年6月，台灣第一本專業的新聞財經雜誌誕生。《天下》多年來不僅記錄了台灣經濟的起飛、企業的起落、制度的變革、成長的痛苦，更在關鍵時刻，代表中產階級對社會變革提出批判、反省。
隨著台灣經濟起飛、成長、轉型，《天下》持續以深入的財經報導及產業調查，開創「一千大企業調查」、「標竿企業聲望調查」、「卓越服務獎選拔」等大型研究，持續為產業界建立新競爭力標竿，促進企業間的觀摩與進步。
