2011年8月15日（月）、駐日欧州連合（EU） 代表部の事務所は、東京都港区南麻布に移転いたしました。日本とEUの関係を一層高いレベルに引き上げることに双方が関心を示すなか、今般の移転により、日・EU関係に新たな展開がもたらされ、世界におけるEUの役割強化を目指して設立された欧州対外行動庁（EEAS）の下、EU代表部の活動が一層活性化されます。
駐日EU代表部（当時は駐日欧州委員会代表部）は1974年に事務所を開設して以来、千代田区番町に事務所を構えてきました。
代表部は外交使節団の地位を全面的に享受しており、駐日欧州連合代表部代表は1990年以来、天皇に信任状を捧呈し、大使の地位を認められています。
