Founded in 1921, Delgado is Louisiana's oldest and largest community college. The College had its beginnings in the educational vision of Isaac Delgado, a Jamaican immigrant and successful American businessman and philanthropist, who donated funds for establishing a manual trades school for boys.
Today, however, the students are men and women of all ages who reflect the diversity of the New Orleans metropolitan area.
Delgado is a comprehensive multi-site community college and a major institution of higher education in the State of Louisiana second only to LSU in student enrollment. It is a center for professional and advanced technology career education, academic pre-baccalaureate education and traditional occupational training.
Delgado has played a key role in the economic development of Louisiana through nearly nine decades encompassing a World War, computer era-driven technological change and the region's ongoing recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
