Do owners still owe money after a Short Sale? Keep in mind that the agreed upon price is payment in full; however, the homeowners may still owe the difference between the mortgage balance and the discounted amount as in a result in deficiency judgement. What qualifies for a Short Sale? 1. Mortgage is in the process of default. 2. Seller has no assets. 3. Seller is experiencing economic problems.
