Habitat For Humanity Of South Hampton Roads

Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads (Habitat SHR) is a non-profit housing ministry and an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). Habitat SHR engages the local community in building opportunities for qualified families to achieve independence and stability through purchasing an affordable home. We seek to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the South Hampton Roads region and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. In the 25 years since its inception, Habitat SHR has built, renovated or rehabbed and then sold nearly 190 homes to low-income, hard-working families. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates homes with partner families, selling them through a unique, no-interest mortgage program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat SHR home and attend financial literacy classes to ensur
