Hunger Task Force is Milwaukee’s only Free & Local food bank. We deliver healthy and nutritious emergency food free of charge to a network of 80 food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters in Milwaukee County. Since Hunger Task Force was founded in 1974, no charity has ever paid for food or delivery.
Milwaukee continues to struggle in the aftermath of the recession. Nearly one in three people live in poverty. And where there is poverty, there is hunger. The local need for emergency food has remained, with over 35,000 people visiting our network pantries every month for help. Over half of those receiving help are children.
Last year, Hunger Task Force delivered a record 10 million pounds of food just to keep pace with need. This food kept pantry shelves stocked, and helped our meal programs to serve over 60,000 meals per month.
