Italcementi was founded in 1864. The current Italcementi industrial structure for cement production consists of six full-cycle cement plants, a site for special products and eight grinding centers.
With a strong vocation for innovation, Italcementi has been a partner of great engineers and architects for major works such as the Pirelli Skyscraper, built in 1956 in Milan, based on a project by Giò Ponti and Pierluigi Nervi, one of the tallest buildings in reinforced concrete in the world. The Papal Audience Hall in Rome, known as Aula Nervi, was built with a cement especially developed in Italcementi laboratories in Bergamo.
More recently, Italcementi played an active role in Expo 2010 Shanghai, by developing i.light, the transparent cement used for the Italian Pavilion, a masterpiece among 2010's best inventions, kept as a permanent structure.
