Literacy Volunteers of Bangor, Maine strengthens our community by providing free English language tutoring to Bangor area adults.
We are dedicated to helping any Bangor area adult who wants either to work on basic English skills or to learn English as another language. Our student-centered methods reduce barriers and get results.
We have been helping local adults since 1969. Affiliated with ProLiteracy, the worlds largest nongovernmental adult literacy organization, we have proudly joined the only 15% of affiliates that are accredited, after being evaluated on 16 quality standards.
Literacy Volunteers of Bangor is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We have a 14-member volunteer Board of Directors. Out part-time staff of three orchestrate the efforts of more than 600 students, tutors, and other volunteers.
