Bij Naturalis Biodiversity Center beschrijven, begrijpen en verklaren we biodiversiteit . Voor het welzijn van de mensen en het voortbestaan van de aardse natuur.
Dat doen we al honderden jaren, elke dag weer. We verzamelen, bewaren en bestuderen dieren, planten en stenen. Onze collectie telt inmiddels 37 miljoen objecten en is daarmee van wereldformaat. Hij groeit nog elke dag dankzij het wereldwijde veldwerk van onze onderzoekers en vele amateurwetenschappers.
Onderzoek
Aan de hand van de collectie kunnen onze onderzoekers baanbrekend onderzoek verrichten. Dat doen zij wereldwijd op locatie én in onze laboratoria in Leiden. Zo komen we steeds meer te weten over de werking van de natuur én haar toepassingsmogelijkheden.
Onderwijs
De kennis en expertise die we bezitten dragen we over op de onderzoekers van morgen. Dat doen we in de collegezalen van, en in gezamenlijke onderzoeksprojecten met de universiteiten van Leiden, Amsterdam en Wageningen.
