Pondok Pesantren Daar el-Qolam is the currently largest pesantren (Islamic institution) in Banten. Founded in 1968, it now spreads more than 40000 alumni around the globe. The teaching methods used in the Pesantren is similiar to Pesantren Modern Daarussalam, Gontor, as the founder of the institution had been educated there.
Although it is considered pesantren, Daar el-Qolam also teaches several sciences and majors not normally taught in other Islamic institiutions.
