Founded in 2004, ProFibrix leverages its expertise in fibrinogen technology to develop and market innovative products for the hemostasis and regenerative medicine markets. Human fibrinogen is a natural blood protein that plays a pivital role in blood clotting and tissue healing.
ProFibrix’ lead product Fibrocaps™ is a new tissue sealant that stops acute and severe bleeding during surgery or in connection with trauma injury. A unique dry powder topical hemostat based on a mixture of fibrinogen and thrombin, Fibrocaps has major advantages over existing liquid tissue sealants: It is ready-to-use, stable at room temperature and highly effective, and can be applied in various ways, including in sprays or bandages. Fibrocaps is under development for the treatment of bleeding associated with surgery. A phase II clinical testing was completed in 2010 the Netherlands where Fibrocaps was used for the treatment of mild to moderate bleeding during liver surgery.
