Rio or "Riyo" means dream in the Somali language. Our story began with a dream, a dream shared by a group of architects who made a journey back to their country of birth to start a new Architectural Firm. The founders of Rio Architects Mohamed Bashir and Warfa Mohamoud met in the city of Hargiesa by chance and instantly new that they both shared the same dream. Mohamed Bashir lived and worked in Minneapolis, MN more than half his life. Warfa Mohamoud lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia almost all his life. Here in Hargeisa, they embark on their journey of making their life long dream come true with the birth of Rio Architects.
Rio Architects is a full-service architectural firm skilled in the art and science of designing unique environments for living, learning, working and healing. Rio is truly a multi-cultural firm that collaborates with designers from many parts of the world; in Hargeisa, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Kuala Lumpur, Baku, Minneapolis, Chicago, and even as far south as Melbourne Australia.

They work for individuals, companies and governments, from small scale projects like private houses to large scale projects like office complexes and shopping centers. Architects do not only design the building itself, but also the landscape around it, from how the building will be positioned on the plot and how it will interact with its surroundings. Architects also need to consider the purpose of the building, the materials used for its construction and the impact the building will have on its environment.
