Ski kommune er den mest folkerike og sentrale kommunen i Follo i Akershus fylke. Den grenser mot Oslo i nord. Ski kommune har ca. 28 000 innbyggere, mens det bor ca. 118 000 mennesker i hele Follo. Bosettingen er meget gammel. Stunnerfunnet - datert ca. 11 000 år tilbake, viser dette. Man har også rike funn fra vikingtiden – Finstadfunnet (Ås) – og et stort antall gravhauger. Ski har to kirker fra middelalderen 1150-1200. De tre hestehodene i kommunevåpenet symboliserer kommunens opprinnelse – Skeid – en ridebane, eller et flatt område som opprinnelig ble brukt til ridning og andre aktiviteter.
