The Wattbike was born out of a desire to provide the sport of cycling with an indoor bike that delivered the authentic feel of cycling.
A bike which would allow talent training, monitoring of fitness, talent identification, and racing for everyone from children through to elite athletes and the over 60s. In 2000, the four partners of Wattbike approached British Cycling with their idea - to create an indoor bike that accurately measured Watts! British Cycling was immediately on board and provided a list of criteria the Wattbike must meet.
Over the next seven years the Wattbike took shape and on every visit to British Cycling, with a completed checklist of criteria Peter Keen and Louis Passfield came up with another longer list, until in the autumn of 2006 the product finally met their requirements. British Cycling then took it to the English Institute of Sport and tested it until they were happy that the power output on the Performance Computer was correct.
